Volunteer Code of Conduct
1.0 Participation in Activities
1.1 All volunteers at Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens (“LKH”), must apply to become registered volunteers, subject to approval by LKH management.
1.2 As is the case with all voluntary work, volunteers will NOT receive remuneration for their efforts.
1.3 Participation in volunteer programmes is at the sole discretion of the LKH Community Engagement Team. Volunteers will be screened based on suitability, accounting for factors such as age, skills set, qualifications and experience in relation to the volunteer role.
2.0 Responsibilities of LKH
2.1 LKH, its officers, employees, volunteers, partners, third-party service providers and agents shall NOT be held responsible for damages, loss, injuries suffered, costs and expenses incurred due to the negligence of the volunteer whilst participating in LKH programmes or activities.
3.0 Indemnity
3.1 The volunteer shall indemnify and hold harmless LKH, its officers and employees from all liabilities, actions, and claims for damages, loss, injuries, costs and expenses arising directly from the volunteer’s participation in the LKH programme and activities, where such liabilities, actions, and/or claims result from the negligence or misconduct of the volunteer, his/her agent or associates.
4.0 Volunteer Guiding Principles
4.1 Volunteers are always expected to serve with the following in mind:
- Accept guidance from the LKH Community Engagement and Programme Facilitiator staff.
- Comply with the policies and procedures of LKH.
- Be punctual and present for their assigned voluntary duty. The volunteer must inform the LKH Community Engagement and Programme Facilitator staff as early as possible if unable to do so.
- Observe all safety procedures and carry out duties responsibly and in a competent manner.
- Be respectful and appropriately dressed for voluntary duty.
- Maintain a good and harmonious working relationship with LKH staff and fellow volunteers.
- Maintain confidentiality of all data and information obtained while volunteering.
4.2 Volunteers are expected NOT to:
- Act as a spokesperson for LKH or impersonate as LKH staff.
- Act in any way that may create liability or bring LKH and its name into disrepute.
- Disclose any confidential information or personal data (including pictures and videos of LKH residents, clients and staff) provided to/collected by
LKH or which the volunteer may have access to. In this regard, no photographs or videos of LKH residents, clients and staff may be used by the volunteer for any purpose in reports, advertisements, promotional material or social media, etc, without obtaining prior written permission from LKH.
- Use LKH property, resources, information or funds for any purpose other than authorised.
- Seek or accept rewards, benefits or gifts without authorisation.
- Engage in any behaviour or activity that may bring harm (e.g. physical or mental) to another person or property.
- Be under the influence of alcohol and non-prescription drugs while volunteering.
- Falsify or change any documents or records.
5.0 Conflict of Interest
5.1 Volunteers are expected to avoid situations where there may be real, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may arise where the volunteer’s personal, family or professional interests conflict with those of LKH. When in doubt, the volunteer is to consult the Community Engagement
and Programme Facilitator Staff.
6.0 Breach of Code of Conduct
6.1 Volunteers who breach the Volunteer Code of Conduct may, at LKH’s sole discretion, be disallowed from participation in any of its programme or activity, receive a warning for unacceptable behaviour or in severe situations, face immediate termination of their volunteer services.
7.0 Personal Data Protection Act
7.1 By signing this form, the volunteer hereby gives consent as follows:
(a) Volunteer’s personal data may be processed in accordance with LKH’s Privacy Policy; and
(b) Volunteers’ personal data (including photos and videos of the volunteer) may be disclosed at LKH’s sole discretion including disclosures for the following purposes:
- Publicity for LKH;
- Publicity to attract more individuals and organisations to volunteer at LKH;
- Complying regulatory requirements including reporting purposes (e.g. annual report); and
- Making insurance claim.
7.2 Volunteers who do not wish to have their pictures and videos disclosed are to inform the LKH Community Enagement staff in writing before the date of the volunteer programme.
